Sacramento Ag Conference Celebrates 25 YearsMarch 23, 2012

With over 400 people in attendance, IBA West's Agribusiness Conference, coordinated by Agency Management Resource Group, celebrated its 25th Anniversary in Sacramento at a new venue, the DoubleTree Hotel, March 21 and 22.

The Conference kicked off with an address by Undersecretary Sandra Schubert of the California Department of Food and Agriculture who discussed issues of great concern to California's farmers and ranchers, including water, weather and the potential impact of the 2012 federal Farm Bill. Chris Leliaert, Catlin Reinsurance, provided an overview of the insurance industry's 2011 results and what they might mean for agents, brokers and their customers in the future with regard to pricing.

During opening remarks, IBA West Managing Director of Education Cheryl Koch announced that, beginning in 2013, the Conference would be re-named in honor of Dr. Emmett J. Vaughan, who started the conference 25 years ago. "Dr. Vaughan was the preeminent scholar on farm and agribusiness insurance issues, and his involvement with this conference in the early years is what propelled it to where it is today. We lost him in 2004, but his memory lives on in this Conference and the many insurance professionals who were touched by him", said Koch.

In addition to the three classes leading to the Agribusiness and Farm Insurance Specialist (AFIS) professional designation, attended by nearly 200 people, the Conference also featured 4 concurrent breakout tracks on cutting edge issues such as Food Contamination and Recall, Heat Illness and Injury Prevention, and the Food Safety Modernization Act.

If you wish to begin, continue or complete your AFIS designation, or simply obtain the most up-to-date information with regard to the unique insurance issues facing those who serve the farm and agribusiness industries, you will want to attend a conference during 2012.
